| New migration arrangements annouced
The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, has announced changes to General Skilled Migration in response to the outcomes of the MODL Review. The Government has revoked the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) and will replace the Critical Skills List (CSL) and the current Skilled Occupations List (SOL) with a new SOL formulated by Skills Australia in the second half of 2010.

Government announcement: new visa measures to assist international students from 1 January 2010
To further enhance integrity measures for the student visa program and ensure that international students have adequate financial arrangements for their study in Australia, the Australian Government is introducing a Visa Application Charge (VAC) exemption for students affected by a provider default, and increasing the minimum financial requirements for international students from $12,000 to $18,000 to more accurately reflect the cost of living in Australia. | Australian Government responding to issues facing international students
The Australian Government has implemented a number of measures to enhance the quality of education for international students and their well-being.
The Minister for Education, The Hon Julia Gillard, has announced the establishment of a student hotline - 1300 363 079. Students can anonymously raise concerns which are collated and published on this site so that all students can benefit from this information.
