Search Tips

Important: The site search will not search for information referring to a specific course or institution. To search for a course, click here. To search for or an institution, click here.

  • To look for pages containing two or more words, use the AND keyword.

    Example: insurance AND cost

  • To look for pages containing at least one of two words, use the OR keyword.

    Example: university OR college

  • To refine your query by excluding pages containing some word from your search then use the AND NOT keywords. For example, the following query results in all pages containing the word accommodation but not the word or the word rent:

    accommodation AND NOT rent

  • To look for a specific sentence, just type the sentence you are looking for. Alternatively, you may place the sentence inside double quotations, to allow for search using restricted words. For example, the query "to be or not to be" will find all pages mentioning Shakespeare's  famous sentence.

  • To look for words with the same prefix, type the prefix followed by an asterisk (*). For example, in your query form type teach* to find teach, teaching, teacher, and so on.

  • Search for all forms of a word. For example, in the form type teach** to find teach, teaching and taught.

  • Avoid using acronyms. For example, instead of searching for OSHC, search for Overseas Student Health Cover. This way you will get more results.

  • Search with the keyword NEAR, rather than AND, for words close to each other. For example, both of these queries, scholarship and application and scholarship near application, look for the words scholarship and application on the same page. But with NEAR, the returned pages are ranked in order of proximity: The closer together the words are, the higher the rank of that page (the closer it will appear on the top of the query results).

  • If your search results in too many pages, try refining your search. To do that, just type the new search query in the appropriate field and click on the Refine button. The new search will be executed only on those documents that matched the previous query condition.
